Connecting to the Community |
My artworks delve into a social issue that many can, hopefully, relate. Throughout my investigation, I had decided to dive into the world of technology and its negative affects. Many people from Generation Z were born in an era where technology really had advanced. I can speak for many others and say that the screens surrounding us as children resulted in a loss of childhood. Along with that, many of this generation had unlimited and unrestricted access to the internet which resulted in children being exposed to many unwanted sights. This alone can take such a large toll on our mental health.

Throughout this year I really wanted to connect to my art on a much deeper level rather than telling a cliché story. I took elements and aspects from my own childhood to express what it was like in a creative art form. I wanted to show my own struggles. Struggles that many people within my generation can relate. I incorporated many aspects of symbolism, the main one being the Red Spider Lily. The flower is very infamous for many reasons, the main reason being the "flower of death" or "flower of farewell".

Fine Art Courses' Impact on my Education |
Taking these classes throughout my high school experience really helped me grow and improve upon my skills as an artist. The quality of the lessons and the amazing talents of my teachers helped push me and experiment outside of my comfort zone. These courses taught me the reality of my community and helped me express my feelings and emotions in a beautiful and creative process. Art is a very personal experience and it can consist of many beliefs, values and complex ideas. I have learned that it takes both artistic skill and an informed mind to create a body of art.

My goal for this year long process was to be more entuned and confident in creating bodies of art that many can interpret based on their own personal struggles and thoughts. I wanted to spread light on this social issue especially since I am apart of Generation Z. Not many people within this generation have this self-awareness and they don't necessarily realize the negative aspects that they throw themselves into. Some of my pieces do need improvements but as I move forward I look back on these pieces and take into consideration the growth that I can achieve.
